“Apaan tuh Contraband?
Yes, we are one big and happy family!
Baru-baru ini dunia per-twitter-an dihebohkan dengan tweet-tweet kontroversial dari seorang stand up comedian ternama. “It’s dark n I don’t know where I am.
So, what do you think about this campaign?
Interview with S. Arief Rakhmadani – The New Strategy Director of Magnivate Group
It gives us great pleasure to inform you that Syamsul Arief Rakhmadani a.k.a Arief is now our new Strategy Director. Graduated from Monash University, Arief has a broad experience in the field of Public Relations, Content Development, Social Media and Digital Marketing. We are very excited to have him with us, so let us get to know him a little bit closer.
Magnivate: Hello Arief, congratulations for your new position as the new Strategy Director of Magnivate Group! Please tell us a bit about your background and how it has prepared you for this role?
Arief: I’ve been in the PR digital industry for the last 8 years. Almost five or six years ago, I started to see the trend that people were moving into the digital realm, people started to blog more, and there’s a lot of social networking going on. Then I moved to a company called Edelman, there’s where I learned a lot about PR, I learned a lot about how digital marketing being shaped and help the brand in communicating with their customers. Because of social media existence, people nowadays have begun to say whatever they want to the brand and brands have to be able to listen to them and involve them in some of the business processes.
Magnivate: Give us an idea of why this role was created?
Arief: I met Kevin (CEO of Magnivate Group) 3 years ago, and I was amazed because he’s young, energetic and brilliant. I looked at the Magnivate’s portfolio and it’s absolutely brilliant. There’s a division called Magnivate Touch which handles the social media and how social media can function as the digital marketing and also the digital PR. The social media and digital marketing in Indonesia are starting to step up their game. There have to be a continuity in the strategy behind it that we can implement somewhere on the future campaign. I think that’s why the role was created.
Magnivate: What do you think about Magnivate? And what made you decide to take this role?
Arief: I already knew about Magnivate for a long time, Magnivate has always been connected with young people, brilliant minds, enthusiasm and I think I will fit to the company, not that I’m young but the philosophy and the work ethics are something that I can relate to.
Magnivate: As the new Strategy Director, what are the key areas you would like to push forward as a priority?
Arief: The thing about digital and social media marketing or whatever you call it, is how you bring the brand to the heart of the customers. There are companies that are already digital savvy but they only do it in the marketing department which I think it needs to go deeper. Social media business have become more and more adaptable to the brand in Indonesia and I think a brand has to realize that social media is not just some communication medium but also something that has to be seamlessly delivered with their business process.
Magnivate: Okay enough with the serious stuff! What do you do in your free time?
Arief: I like photography, so I usually go someplace i can take pictures of people. I love to hangout with my friends and family. I’m also a movie-buff, so I usually go to the cinema or watch my DVD collections. But mostly, I spend my time in front of computer Tweet-ing, Facebook-ing and doing those kind of things.
Magnivate: Coffee or Tea?
Arief: Coffee of course.
Magnivate: Favorite Music?
Arief: Coldplay is my favorite band. I like a lot of genre but I’m currently into Jay-Z, Kanye West and Hip-Hop music. For the old stuff, I like Bon Jovi, Scorpions, now you know how old I am, hahaa!
Magnivate: Last but not least, if you weren’t a Strategy Director, what else could you see yourself doing to make a living?
Arief: A Chef, I really like cooking! I do cook in my spare time and I used to work in restaurant before, If I’m not a Strategy Director, probably I’ll become a Chef.
Magnivate: Thank you Arief, for the time to talk with us and welcome to the family!
Arief: Thank you!
We are so sure that Arief is up for a challenge to take Magnivate to a whole new level. So, if you see him around the office, make sure that you give him a warm welcome!
It’s such a joy to have some new people in the company who share and live the same passion. Welcome abroad, we’re glad you’ve joined the team!

Well, another year is about to complete, and December is probably the busiest month of every year — we’ve been scrambling around trying to get things done before holidays. So, as you know from the previous post, on December 22nd we left the office earlier and went to Kim Sat Gat to have our annual year end dinner and gift exchange session.
We arrived to Kim Sat Gat separately, some arrived straight from the office and the others came after meeting with client. As usual, as we got in Kim Sat Gat before the dinner started, we became so busy taking pictures of each other. Around 7.30 PM, the yummy korean dishes like kimchi, sashimi, bulgogi, kimbab, tteokbokki, samgyeopsal and many more were gradually served on our table.
After eating all that delicious Korean foods, our beloved CEO – Kevin Mintaraga gave a little speech, he told us how proud, how blessed and how happy he was having a rockin’ team like us. It’s amazing how Magnivate has been growing so fast since it was founded in 2008. Magnivate started as a team of 6 and now we have 91 talented people in the team.
Here comes the fun part, the night ended with gift exchange session. Everybody is so excited when they picked their gift number — each person got the gift according to the number they have picked. Gift exchange session was very interesting because the gifts that had been prepared by each of us were extremely diverse and unique. Edo got a Justin Bieber special edition magazine, Uji got a bunch of coffee sachets, Christie got a petromak while Uthie and Nadya got Lego brick lights that everyone wants.
We had joy, we had fun, and we had wonderful dinner together!
Thing We Can Learn from Nescafé Hungary Social Media Crisis
Currently, Nescafé Hungary runs a competition that required a contestant to submit an idea for project (picture/video) and get the most ‘likes’ to win $5000.
A member of the 9GAG.com community, Janos Szolnoki aka Jani posted a video to Nescafé Hungary and posted a comic to 9GAG.com asking the fellow members to like the video of his 11-year-old handicapped brother to enter the contest in hopes of giving his brother a special Christmas gift. The contestants needed at least 20 ‘likes’ on Facebook to be considered and before being assesed by the judges. With over 47.000 ‘likes’ at time of posting, it turns out that Janos and his brother were banned from the competition for the way they had appealed to get the votes. Now, the Nescafé Hungary’s Facebook wall is getting flooded with thousands of negative comments from the 9GAG community.
Nescafé Hungary posted on its Facebook page:
“Dear All,
“Regarding the rules: in the first round of the game you had to upload your project and satisfy the minimun requirements – meaning collecting 20 likes in order to be short listed. ( So in the first round, not the high number of likes was basis of the decision!) Then the jury subjectively assessed them and chose 30 to go to second round. In the second round there will be 5 winner…s, out of them 3 will chosen by the jury and 2 of them are those who collected the most likes. Refers to the rules of the game, not the ones who collected the most likes get the chance to be shortlisted. Those who were not selected to the shortlist are not banned, but only 30 them were selected for the second round (at the basis of the decision was not the high number of the likes, but subjective assessment of the jury).”
With so many negative comments, Nescafé Hungary responded as below :
“Dear All,
“Many of you have asked for clarity about the voting and judging process for the Nescafé 3in1 Effect and specifically asked why János Szolnoki didn’t win it. We have looked into this carefully and can confirm the the rules of the compition were followed fairly and we have been in direct contact with János Szolnoki and have been able to reassure him that no guidelines were broken. For those who want to understand a little more about what happened, here is the detail. We at Nescafé created this competition with aim of financially supporting project ideas and were delighted to receive 637 applications. All entries were considered by a judging panel and shortlist of 30 project ideas were selected – these included an ambulance for children and a shelter programme for homeless people. The judging was based on a broad range of criteria, not based on the number pf ‘like’ received (a minimum of only 20 like was required). No personal circumtances had any bearing on the judges’ final decision. We are looking forward to the rest of the competition and helping the winning entry its charitable goal with a donation of 5 million HUF.”
What we can learn from this case is, the internet has been a huge part of many people lives. With Social Media trends that constantly changing, companies need to start to think about their strategies a lot more and execute it in proper manners. If companies wanted to create a competition, they need to go into the details in making the rules. If the rules are not clear enough, it could backfire the companies itself. Crisis that Nescafé Hungary is facing right now can cause severe and even fatal backlash on their company, it’s often resulting in brand reputation damage, lost customers or drop in stock market value. In our opinion, Nescafé Hungary has handled the situation in a pretty good way. They gave a clarification and they contacted János Szolnoki in person to reassure him that no guidelines were broken. As a digital agency, we should do a digital monitoring more often and accurate to anticipate a case like this.
An Interview with Chandra Wijaya – Managing Director of Magnivate Group
We would like to introduce you to our Managing director, Chandra Wijaya. Please enjoy the interview.
Magnivate: Please tell us a bit about your background? What did you do before, and can you explain about your role here?
Chandra: I came from Yogyakarta and I grew up mostly there. I was a working student majored in communication at this particular university in Yogyakarta. Back then, I was an announcer and also a producer in one of the radio stations in that town. Three years ago I moved to Jakarta because my friend offered me a job as an Account Executive in advertising agency, and voila! here I am. My current role right now is Managing Director, someone who is responsible for everything that happen in this company. And I also have partners who work together with me.
Magnivate: What is exciting about Magnivate? Why is this a great place for someone to grow career?
Chandra: When you work in a high-end company some people may like the work, but for me the most important thing is the people. In this company, we have great people to work and have fun with. Magnivate is a new world, a creative digital industry and you surely can learn a lot of things here. This company is the most growing full-service digital agency, you will learn to use Facebook or Twitter or any social media platform into a whole new level in your daily life because you are the one who design and create it, so fun.
Magnivate: What do you like the most about your job?
Chandra: What I like the most about my job is because there’s no actual job description in my role, so I can be flexible about which part should I grow with. I learned a lot in this company. I learned how to manage people, I learned how to manage my own work, and even I learned how to manage the cash flow. The best part is you can create things. I personally like to design stuff like creating the system and the rules, so when you become a managing director you will face those kind of things. It’s a great role and it’s a great place to improve yourself.
Magnivate: What is the biggest challenge are you facing right now?
Chandra: The biggest challenge I’m facing right now is to discipline myself. I need to motivate and manage my work and myself everyday and never stop to learn especially in leadership because, learning to be a leader is a rocky process. Probably that’s my biggest challenge.
Magnivate: What do you do to refresh your mind outside of work?
Chandra: Take a leave! hahaha! Well mostly doing what I like. I like to travel, I like music, I like movies, I like games, I like to meet new people, most of all I’ll just do my hobbies just like any other people does.
Magnivate: Please tell us something interesting about you that most people don’t know?
Chandra: I’m actually like a wide open book so that people can read me easily. Although I consider myself as a thick one you can still read me easily even though you need quite some time to do it. The more you hang with me, the more you know me. And I think what people don’t know about me is…. I’m a soft-hearted kind of guy, hahaa!
As you all know, Twitter has announced a new look on Thursday, December 8th. Along with the redesign, Twitter also followed in Google+’s and Facebook’s footsteps with the release of their new Brand Pages. Although it’s only available right now for a selected 21 companies including Coca-Cola, Dell, American Express, Nike and Disney, it’s said it will be available to the public soon.
A Brand Page will bring benefits to social media campaigns and allow brands to create a great professional-looking page. So, these are a few things on what we like about the new Twitter Brand Pages:
Intriguing Pages The more intriguing your page, the more followers you can get! The Brand Page provide an 890x90 banner on top, which can include all the information, logo, taglines even links. At the top of the timeline, this page also includes a “promoted tweet” which can be used as a welcome message. Displaying not only just text, this “promoted tweet” area also has the capability to put a pre-expanded video or picture to drive further engagement with the customers. Raising Awareness Twitter Brand Pages will also impact the brand awareness. The new design will allow brands to easily differentiate between their @replies (tweets directed at the brand) and their @mentions (tweets just mentioning the brand with @username). By separating @replies and mentions, Twitter facilitates the customer service-savvy companies without interfering with the messaging, which will create interesting interactions
Instantaneous The instantaneous of Twitter is always beneficial for the brands. Brands can spread out all the information more constantly on Twitter without annoying the people. Twitter Brand Pages are a great place for brand enthusiasts to converse and talk via hash tags. Website owners will also be able to embed a tweet onto their website, giving site visitors the ability to favorite, reply to, or retweet a tweet without even leaving the web page.
So, if you’re planning to take advantages of this new Brand Pages, do consider about how you can make the content as great and relevant as possible. Happy Tweeting!
It was another movie night at Magnivate. Yesterday, after office hours we went straight to Senayan City XXI for a Puss in Boots night out at 6.45 PM. Most of us (it’s 75 out of 90ish anyway) went there and we had quite some fun sitting at the theatre together.
After a busy day at the office, sitting and watching movie together is quite the treat! It was another quality time to spend with all the colleagues. The movie was good, the popcorn was there to share, and voila! A perfect movie night out, not to forgot to mention the outburst laughters last night.
We owned the cinema!
Puss in Boots was a good movie. Filled with the animated cats and kittens for the whole 90 minutes, the film features an adventure, romance, friendship, along with the witty humor. Perfect movie for cat lovers!
Meow.
Getting ourselves popcorn and soft drinks
Taking over the studio
It’s blurry but sure we had a blast
Done with the movie, it’s time to fill our tummies
